The Electric Bike Shop takes over four Pure Electric stores

E-bike specialist retailer The Electric Bike Shop has announced it will be taking over four Pure Electric stores.

Last month, e-mobility retailer Pure Electric announced that it would be focussing on international expansion of its branded e-scooter business, and as a result would be exiting the e-bike market, closing a majority of its UK stores.

The Electric Bike Shop, which currently has 10 stores across the country, will be taking over four Pure electric stores – two in England, one in Wales, and one in Cardiff.

All staff in the Pure Electric stores will be given the opportunity to retain their jobs and work for the Electric Bike Shop.

As of April this year, Pure Electric employed 284 people across 17 stores.

Following the takeover, The Electric Bike Shop said it will have 13 shops in operation nationwide, including these new stores in Southampton, Gateshead, Cardiff and Glasgow.

In a statement, The Electric Bike Shop CEO Karl Haden said: “ In early July, Pure Electric announced it was putting all its focus into international expansion of its branded e-acooter business via pureelectric.com and third-party partners. As a result, it would be exiting from the e-bike market and closing the majority of its UK stores.

“Since this announcement, we at The Electric Bike Shop have been working towards securing a number of these established electric bicycle retail sites, with a view to bringing them into our estate. We can proudly announce that four of the Pure Electric stores will be brought into the ever-growing The Electric Bike Shop brand.

Haden added: “All colleagues at the four Pure Electric sites we’re acquiring will be offered an opportunity to retain their job and work with us. We see an impressive wealth of talent within the Pure Electric teams which we are working towards retaining.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all members of the Pure Electric team who have truly gone above and beyond to support us in this project. Without their efforts, this would not have been possible.”

The Electric Bike Shop aims to have these stores in operation by early September.
